Our Mavrud wines in the TOP 5 Wine of the Year ...
Two of our wines - Zagreus Mavrud Reserve and VINICA Mavrud BIO /from dried grapes/ nominated in the Top 5 "Wine of the Year 2017". Unfortunately they couldn't win The Wine of the Year Award, but we received many compliments from the jury and the public. These results are a great success for us and a recognition of of our hard work. We work hard on our selection, but its also the wine maker who deserves a big applause.
Mavrud is probably the most highly valued local grape variety. Foreign wine experts point to Mavrud as the local grape variety that is most likely to become internationally recognized in the near future. 23 wine countries made their way to the final selection.
More than 250 finalists from 23 wine countries were on the tasting tables of the concours on Sunday 25 September. 27 category winners were awarded Wine of the Year.
Along with the traditionl well-known countries such as France, Italy, Spain, etc, many less popular wine countries surpised the jury and stood out in the final selection. Bosnia, Lebanon, Israel, Armenia, and Bulgaria for example. "Wine countries that are not easy to find on an average wine list, but extremely interesting" - was the conclusion. Wine continues to improve and fascinating wines with a serious quality level can be found in more and more places around the world. The Proefschrift Wine Concours - a reliable measuring instrument of the current wine state for 28 years, and the many participating importers gave wine professionals and enthusiasts the opportunity to taste and evaluate the best wines in the ambience of St. Olofskapel Hall in NH Barbizon Palace in Amsterdam.
Concours and Results
The Wine & Food Association organizes the Proefschrift Wine Concours annually. While almost every other competition is obliged to award at least one third of the submitted wines with bronze, silver or gold, the organizers has chosen a fairer and more objective way since the beginning. Only the wines that really deserve it are awarded. Sommeliers, traders and wine loverd know that and look forward to announcing the results every year.
