Tasted and approved by Perswijn!

"dark and solid, blackberries, red currants, cherries, licorice, chocolate, tasty and intense, good structure"

****  - VERY GOOD

Perswijn is the leading independent wine magazine in The Netherlands.

A magnificent wine made from the unique Bulgarian grape variety Early Melnik Vine. This grape grows only in Bulgaria in small micro areas along Struma River in the most south western part of the country. Here the vines benefit from the unique terroir, result from the specific combination of continental climate with strong mediterranean influence and the soils.

Melnik 55 is certainly one of the most unique wines from Bulgaria…  and most of all, the perfect balance between quality and price!
Cheers!

Melnik is also the name of the smallest Bulgarian town, picturesquely situated amongst a fantastic scenery – strangely shaped pyramids of  sand and limestone. During the 17th -18th century it became a flourishing tobacco and wine-producing center, whose fame spread to many European countries. The beautiful fortress-like houses with broad wine cellars, cut in the limestone rocks date back to this period.

The name of this festive day is Baba Marta in Bulgarian and means “Grandma March”. If you are walking along the streets in Bulgaria on the 1st of March you will witness many smiling faces. But first of all your eyes will be captured by Martenitsa.
